Thermofoil, Melamine And Laminate Cabinet Painting in Windsor, Ontario

Cabinet painting on melamine, laminate and thermofoil starts with a bonding primer. A vinyl skin that is already lifting gets replaced instead, and we say so plainly.

Have This Work Priced Properly

Somebody attends, tallies every opening, works out the material and records the scope on paper. There is no charge for either the visit or the price.

Slick factory material wants a waterborne bonding primer formulated to key into it, because nothing ordinary stays put. Intact doors take cabinet painting perfectly well, and doors whose vinyl skin has already lifted cannot be rescued with a coating.

Windsor sees a great deal of this. Rental units around the university, the melamine kitchens in older apartment stock, and the 2005 to 2015 builds out in LaSalle, Tecumseh and the Banwell corridor are full of it.

What Can And Cannot Take Cabinet Painting Here

Melamine is a resin-saturated paper pressed onto particleboard, and it accepts a bonding primer without complaint. Its weakness lies along the edges, where banding chips away and leaves raw board showing, so filling and sealing there comes first.

High-pressure laminate behaves the same way and is tougher still. Both need a real scuff to break the gloss, since a bonding primer grips far better into a dulled surface than a shiny one.

Thermofoil is different because it is a vinyl film heat-pressed over shaped MDF. While that film is bonded across the whole face, cabinet painting works. Once it starts releasing, paint sits on top of a skin that is still lifting, and the failure continues underneath the new colour.

Thermofoil Gives Way Beside The Dishwasher Before Anywhere Else

Steam and heat do the damage, so whatever hangs by the dishwasher or above the stove gets inspected first of all. A corner curls, then a bubble opens along an edge, then the whole film peels away in a sheet.

Once that begins, two honest routes remain. Heat lifts the film away to raw MDF, slow enough to suit only a handful of doors, or a replacement goes in and joins the cabinet painting so the run stays uniform.

Which route applies gets decided after somebody handles the doors, and it gets said plainly even when saying it loses the work. Replacement doors are covered under cabinet refinishing and replacement options.

Bonding Primer Changes What A Cabinet Painting Quote Costs

Bonding primer for slick material raises the price, usually by several hundred dollars across a whole kitchen, since it is another product and another pass. Edge filling on chipped melamine adds more.

The primer also needs its own time. Recoat comes at three to four hours, but full adhesion develops over three to four days, so a window exists in which the cabinet painting is finished and the doors still want gentle handling.

Skipping the bonding primer is the single most common reason a melamine kitchen peels within a year. Regular primer does not key into a factory surface, and no amount of topcoat rescues that afterward.

Rental And Investment Kitchens Are Worth Pricing Separately

Landlords across Windsor run into the same problem: the melamine is sound, the colour is dated, and replacing the kitchen makes no sense against the rent. Cabinet painting a unit kitchen takes one day or two and sits right at the cheap end.

Turnover timing usually decides the booking rather than the calendar. Doors leave for the booth on day one and come back finished, so a unit can be handed over quickly. The same approach suits galley kitchens in older buildings, described under condo kitchen cabinet painting.

Have The Doors Checked Before Booking Any Cabinet Painting

Thermofoil and melamine get decided in person, never over a photograph. Somebody presses the edges, checks the doors nearest the heat and tells you honestly what cabinet painting will and will not fix. Call +1 (226) 286-5378, send the details over or look through the full list of services.

Thermofoil, Melamine and Laminate Cabinet Painting Questions

Can thermofoil cabinets be painted?

Yes, while the vinyl film is bonded across the whole face. Once it starts releasing, paint only sits on a lifting skin and the failure carries on underneath. Doors by the dishwasher and above the stove are checked first, because heat and steam do the damage.

Why does melamine cabinet painting need a bonding primer?

Ordinary primer does not key into a slick factory surface. A waterborne bonding primer does, once the gloss has been scuffed. Skipping it is the most common reason a melamine kitchen peels within a year, and no topcoat rescues that afterward.

What does bonding primer add to the price?

Usually several hundred dollars across a whole kitchen, since it is another product and another pass. Edge filling on chipped melamine adds more. Full adhesion takes three to four days, so the doors want gentle handling for a short while after.
